Joya Mooi Charms With 'Open Hearts' EP | News

South African-Dutch vocalist Joya Mooi rises to the problem on new EP ‘Open Hearts’.

The soulful vocalist blends a keenness for prime R&B tropes with an urgency of expression, leading to one thing beatific and contemporary. Her new EP ‘Open Hearts’ is a superb doc of intent, a six-tracker that revels in her caramel-smooth voice.

A septet which attracts on the power of her character and the depth of her experiences, ‘Open Hearts’ EP revels in freedom.

Opening with the clipped tones of ‘Poster Baby’, there’s a palpable sense of intent behind ‘No Holding Again’; title monitor ‘Open Hearts’ in the meantime, is audio autobiography, an actual assertion of intent.

She says…

“Embracing a way of freedom has at all times been a theme in my life. However after releasing my newest album, I felt a powerful urge to bounce and to dive into the previous. I’ve at all times had a tough time taking on house, and with this EP I’ve allowed myself to guide with an open coronary heart. Shedding a lightweight on people who at instances go unnoticed, highlighting their tales and triumphs. ‘Open Hearts’ is all about digging into how our pasts form who we’re.”
