Los Angeles-based rapper, singer, and producer Tkay Maidza has shared her cowl of MGMT’s ‘Electrical Really feel’, launched solely as a part of the Spotify Singles sequence.
Tkay’s rendition of the American rock band’s iconic unique is equally transportive, although in some way extra spacious and ethereal; her vocal coos and are available hitters cresting over a kaleidoscope of funk-infused riffs and slabs of bass.
The polymath, who has roots in Zimbabwe and Australia, launched her genre-spanning album ‘Sweet Justice‘ final 12 months through 4AD. It featured collaborations with Lolo Zouaï, Amber Mark, Duckwrth, Stint and Kaytranada. Described as a subversive coming-of-age file, Tkay juxtaposed “karmic justice and accountability” with shiny, multi-hued compositions that skirted each the mainstream and underground spheres.
‘Candy Justice‘ got here three years after the mammoth 24-track ‘Last Year Was Weird‘ trilogy which explored and reconciled Tkay’s dissonant African-Australian expertise.
