Mae Stephens has shared new single ‘Small City Syndrome’.
The songwriter is taking steps in direction of her debut EP, with ‘Securely Insecure’ set to land on August 2nd. Forward of this, Mae digs into her personal experiences, rising up in a close-knit group the place it appears everybody is aware of everybody.
‘Small City Syndrome’ is about gossips, cynics, and people who maintain you again; it’s a track that yearns for escape, and finds delicate thrills within the easy energy of creativity.
Shifting from gentle to shade and again once more, Mae sings:
“This small city syndrome’s getting me down… I can hear them speaking, speaking so loud / And I’m nonetheless looking for a method out of right here.”
Discussing the track’s gestation, Mae Stephens appears again on her teenagers, and finds a path between then and now.
“It’s about being in a small city and everybody realizing everybody’s enterprise,” Mae explains. “The lyrics let you know how I used to be hiding behind partitions, placing on a courageous face whereas feeling the burden of gossip and judgment. The refrain displays the battle to discover a method out of this, resonating with anybody who’s ever felt caught and misunderstood in a close-knit group. The track’s predominant theme is actually of these dreaming of escape and new beginnings.”
