Steve Albini was notable for his work on legendary albums akin to Nirvana’s In Utero, Pod by The Breeders, Pixies’ Surfer Rosa, Rid of Me by PJ Harvey, Issues We Misplaced within the Hearth by Low, and engineering many different albums. Tributes have come flooding in from his friends and collaborators.
“Meeting Steve Albini and working with him changed the course of my life,” PJ Harvey shared. “He taught me a lot about music, and life. Steve was an amazing buddy – smart, variety and beneficiant. I’m so grateful.” In the meantime, Veruca Salt mirrored on their experiences as his buddy, writing: “These of us who had been fortunate sufficient to name him a buddy know that he was additionally extremely candy, delicate, and beneficiant. He was humorous and sensible as hell, a wonderful cook dinner, and a fiercely loyal defender of the folks he liked.”
Bully labored at Albini’s recording studio Audio Electrical. In her tribute, she dedicated her career to Albini and the time he took to mentor her: “The ethics behind the way in which that studio operates are so powerfully humanizing in a approach that’s utterly overseas to this business. I owe my profession to Steve and that studio. Thanks for cultivating an area during which I genuinely felt revered, secure and cozy sufficient to ask questions and develop.”
In an extensive thread on X, previously often called Twitter, Thurston Moore shared a tribute to his buddy writing, “Steve Albini was an individual of ardour and contradiction”, while black midi’s Geordie Greep stated of Albini, “He was precisely as he comes throughout – as articulate and no bullshit as anybody may ever be, and effortlessly sensible at his craft”.
